Across all schools, KIPPsters excelled on the MCAS in 2019. KALE’s founding class of kindergarteners took the third grade MCAS for the first time in 2019. Eighty percent of those students Met or Exceeded expectations in ELA, making KALE the third-ranked charter school in the state and eighth-ranked among districts in 3rd Grade ELA. KALE’s performance was on par with districts like North Reading and Hingham, which have a dramatically lower percent of students classified as high-needs (25% and 16%, respectively, versus 71%).
KABE had particularly high performance in 4th grade Math, with 74% of students Meeting or Exceeding Standards, compared to 49% statewide. KABE 4th graders were the first class of KABE kindergarteners, showing the compounding value of a KIPP education. We are excited to see what these students accomplish in 5th grade and beyond.
KAL 5th graders outperformed the state in ELA, Math, and Science in their first year at KIPP. Compared to their performance in 4th grade at other schools, 15% more students Met/Exceeded expectations in ELA and 14% more Met/Exceeded expectations in Math.
At KAB, 8th grade students improved over their 7th grade performance, with 10% more students Meeting/Exceeding Expectations in Math and 12% more Meeting/Exceeding Expectations in ELA.
KALC students performed well on the Next Generation MCAS, where the proficiency rate across the state in ELA dropped from 91% to 70%. KALC students outperformed the state in ELA, Science, and Math. Eighty percent of KALC 9th and 10th graders met Math standards, while statewide only 58% of students met the standards.
