KIPP Massachusetts Names Shameka Coleman as Chief Equity and Engagement Officer

(January 2023) KIPP Massachusetts Charter Public Schools named Shameka Coleman as the Chief Equity and Engagement Officer, effective January 1st, 2023. 

Shameka has been with KIPP Massachusetts since 2014, where she was a founding elementary school teacher at KIPP Academy Boston K-8. In her time at KIPP Academy Boston K-8, she also held the roles of Grade Level Chair and Leader Fellow, before transitioning to an Assistant Principal in 2018. In 2021, Shameka became the Managing Director of Equity & Engagement for the KIPP Massachusetts region, where she led sessions on racial justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in addition to launching Family Working Groups. Shameka also led the Family and Community Engagement Teams for Boston and Lynn in supporting Family Councils and relaunching our Family and Community Learning adult education evening classes.

Shameka holds a B.A. in Sociology, with a self-designed minor in Medical Ethics, and a concentration in Women & Gender Studies. Shameka continued her education in graduate school and holds a Master of Education in Curriculum & Teaching.
