The evening kicked off with student performances, showcasing the creativity and voices of KIPPsters as they previewed their upcoming spring show. Their presentations set the tone for a meaningful night centered on the health challenges and opportunities within our community.
The main feature of the event was an engaging panel discussion on public health, access to care, and culturally responsive health education. Moderated by Abobomi Docanto, Director of Advocacy, the panel featured a distinguished lineup of local leaders, health experts, and advocates.
State Representative Brandy Fluker-Oakley, who represents parts of Boston and Milton, spoke about the intersection of policy, equity, and healthcare access. Her remarks highlighted the crucial role legislation plays in shaping healthier communities.
Mary Ellen McIntyre, Interim Chief Operating Officer of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, underscored the importance of community health centers and the need for comprehensive, affordable care in every neighborhood.
Michael Kincade, Director of Diversity Outreach, Engagement, and Recruitment at the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (Mass General/Brigham Hospital), shared vital insights about the hospital’s history in Boston and the ongoing need to normalize conversations around health within our communities.
