KIPP Academy Lynn middle school alumni, Alex Newell, made history last night when they became the first nonbinary person to win a Tony for acting. Alex stars as Lulu, an independent, whiskey distiller in “Shucked,” a musical comedy about a rural community thrust into crisis when the corn crop on which it depends suddenly starts dying. They were featured in the Boston Globe and Lynn Item.
