KPMG Community Impact Day Donates and Builds New Library at KAB!

On this year’s KPMG Community Impact Day, volunteers from the Boston office made an unforgettable mark on our school community: they donated and helped build a brand-new library on our campus.

KIPP Boston was founded in 2012 and currently serves students in grades K-8. As a school grounded in joy, rigor, and community, we believe that strong literacy skills open doors to opportunity, and a school library plays a critical role in that journey. Thanks to KPMG’s generosity, our students now have access to an updated, engaging space filled with books that reflect who they are and who they can become.

This project was part of KPMG’s annual Community Impact Day, a firmwide day of service that began in 2022 on the company’s 125th anniversary. The initiative brings together thousands of KPMG professionals across the country to support meaningful causes through volunteerism. This year, the firm had 79 offices participate, offering employees 600 activities among 400 nonprofit collaborators.

Working with KIPP Academy Boston to bring this library to life has been an incredible experience. It’s a reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose. Education is a cornerstone of KPMG’s community impact efforts, and we’re proud to help create spaces that inspire learning and growth, said Mike Desrochers, National SALT Lead, KPMG US.

On August 5th at KAB, over 50 KPMG employees came to campus and assembled bookshelves, organized brand new books, painted the walls, and completed our new, beautiful library. KPMG has been working alongside KIPP Academy Boston leaders since the spring to make sure the design not only looked great, but was functional as well. The new library houses bookshelves on every wall, lounging areas for students and teachers, as well as a variety of work spaces..

KPMG’s values—“Together” and “For Better”—were felt deeply on our campus as their team came together to create a lasting space for our students. Their hands-on work reflects a commitment to being not just a trusted business leader, but a true partner in the communities they serve.

The new library will also serve as a daily reminder of Ms. Rhea’s memory, our former librarian, and her love for books and our KIPPsters. Her impact lives on in this beautiful space.

We are beyond grateful to KPMG for this investment in our students and for honoring the memory of someone who meant so much to the KIPP Boston community. Together, we’re building a brighter future, one page at a time.
