Sheila Bair Visits KIPP 2nd Graders!

(April 2023)

Recently, 2nd grades at KIPP Academy Boston and KIPP Academy Lynn Elementary had a special visit from Sheila Bair who read from her children’s book series Money Tales.

KIPP Academy Lynn Elementary students learned a valuable lesson in profits thanks to Isabel, a young girl who desperately wants a new doll she saw at the store, but must work to raise the funds. 2nd grade students at KIPP Academy Boston learned a valuable lesson in borrowing in Billy the Blue Footed Booby: shop around for an umbrella before taking a loan from Seal!

Sheila Bair, a Children’s Book Author with an impressive resume, visited students and read from her books Isabel’s Car Wash and Billy the Borrowing Blue-Footed Booby. Ms. Bair also held a discussion on financial literacy.

Sheila’s wealth of knowledge on finances spans decades of service to the American public. Ms. Bair served as the 19th Chair of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and was a prominent figure in the response to the 2008 financial crisis. She served as the first woman to be named the head of Washington College.

In her decades of service, Sheila also developed a passion for financial literacy, specifically to young readers.

“I meet young adults today who tell me they still think of my first book Rock, Brock and the Savings Shock!” Sheil told students at KIPP Academy Boston. That book was published in 2006 and was the first book in what came to be Sheila’s Money Tales series, a series of books dedicated to helping young readers learn about finances.
